This was the first edition piece that I sculpted, inspired while I was still a student at BYU. The idea came as I walked from one class to another through a grass courtyard. The courtyard features a large carved stone ball, and on this day a student was seated atop the ball, reading. It had instant visual appeal. As I imagined it in my mind’s eye, the stone ball became the earth with four corners of books as the foundation. Learning opens much of what the world has to offer.
